OK decision is made....drum roll................The Duke 250 in Black ...second choice will be the red. So if they are out of black the red will be shipped. Not much different in looks than the Bali but considered the better of the two. Both are water cooled but the Bali overheats as it has venting problems..This chick doesn't need to be sitting on the side of the road so we upgraded by $200..oh well it's only money. The size on all the bikes is the same 150/250 so that didn't come in to it but 250 will give me the power needed to get up hill or merge in traffic if necessary.
I talked to Susan again before ordering and when Jim and I called William at Scooter-Nitro we were ready to ask questions. I had pretty much made up my mind on the Duke by then and William confirmed what we had heard and on his recommendation we put in the order for the Duke. He said he had received quite a few orders from Waverly already and the shipping time was now 2 weeks. Jim will put off his trip a few days so we will be here when it comes.
Jim dug out his helmets which are red and it looks like the red on the screen but you know how colors are. His are full head ones but I will order the half helmet, like the police ones ,down the line. Can't stand my ears covered. I'm hoping to have no problem as my Honda 400 was as big or if not bigger than this but my Honda Elite was a tiny bit smaller. I'm so looking forward to thumbing my nose at the gas pump though. I figure what I can save at the pump would cover any payment I have plus some. At least I won't feel a prisoner here when Jim goes to Oklahoma. I've been limiting my trips to town so that one tank would last the two weeks he was gone. This last time I had to break down and put 30 dollars in giving me a half tank..sickening. 60 miles or more a gallon whoo hoo! Come on scooter!
Which brings me to the cost of living..I'm sure other retired people will run into this as I'm sure I will soon too...maybe not with the scooter but it's the choice of putting fuel in the car to go buy food or make the choice of giving yet one more thing up and that's buying medication. I'm lucky as with Jim's insurance we can go to the base for our meds...if not I would have to give up mine as even with a 3-9 dollar co pay a month for 11 medications yup 11 I couldn't afford to do both eat and take meds. It was hard enough before the fuel increase but now forget it. The sad thought is some I can live without allergy, prilosec, possibly blood pressure, Zocor but Thyroid and three types of diabetic meds, no as they are life saving. Depressing thought is, it's one way to get rid of old people ( that means me) and I guess a lot of young ones too that can't afford meds. It's sad to see what our country has come to when people have to make those decisions.
I thank God that he sent me Jim and his great medical benefits that I thought I would never need. Yeah I know we are all spoiled with things we have taken for granted. I have given up things like cable TV premium channels already and we are getting ready to drop some of our phone service. I also refuse to use the A/C till I get a headache and am ready to pass out with the heat. Stupid move there as it takes longer then to cool the house but I'm always hoping it will cool down outside before that happens. I've been trying to cut corners wherever I can except certain things that keep me sane ( which I should drop if I had to but will starve first :) ) like latte, and internet.
All kidding aside I do feel bad for people that really have to make those decisions...especially the elderly and couples with families. We can all afford to give up perks but those life saving decisions aren't fair. Younger couples that are still working are working more giving up more family time but what of the elderly and poor that are on fixed income..welfare or whatever they have no hope as the government isn't going to raise their incomes at all. Like they say the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, and all politicians lie. LOL
For me,,,,Scarlett says, tomorrow is another day.
