Sorry I got out of the hospital last Wednesday...finally. Got home and Jim had me all set up here...shower chair, walker and the inevitable commode. Sigh
After feeling like a human taco for weeks I'm finally in my own bed but sadly I still can't get comfy. The hospital bed sank in the middle so I always had the feeling I was a taco. I still have a few more weeks of full restrictions which include sleeping with a block or pillows between my legs but I'm now able to sleep on my side..but sadly I wake in pain so spend the night going from left to center to right to center all night long. I sleep fitfully and have to take a pain pill to get any rest at all.
Because of storms my follow up exam in Paris had to be canceled and also my therapy which I can't have till I get a referral. After a week of plkaying musical appointments I got to go to the Doctor Tuesday the 16th and saw the x-ray of my replacement. The site of that made me sick. If I had any idea that's what it was I probably would have run. When he showed me in the office a sample he didn't show me how they were connected. LOL I had no idea I would have a metal bar down into my bone about 12 inches and also a few screws. So now if I say I have a screw loose I just might.
I don't have my xray but her is an example of just what it looks like.
enough to make you squirm. It hurts to look at it. Anyhow they are pleased with my progress and have another follow up 3/8 and then 3/30 before releasing me. Mine looks a bit different in the socket part but you get the idea. I also now have a card to carry if I have to fly as I will set off the alarms.
I started my out patient therapy today and Daryl said it was written for 3 times a week for 6 weeks. He said he doubts I'll need 6 weeks and I only need 2 times a week. I have made a lot of progress on my own doing the exercises from the hospital to which he has now added some new strengthening ones.
I can also walk with out the walker very slowly but I still tire easy so do not do this as a practice. I even rode the stationery bike today didn't make the 4 mins but did 3 and that about killed me. I couldn't keep my feet in the peddle stirrups. Since I can't break the 90 degree mark I can't adjust my seating so it was very difficult.
As of March 8 th I can be off restrictions but Daryl still feels I should follow most the rest of my life...mainly the bending and leg crossing for sure. I'm so looking forward to a regular sleep position and getting sleep again.
Happily I am doing great with the therapy and can feel myself getting stronger by the day. Chris at the Doctors office was amazed at how far I had come and so is Daryl as a lot of those my age do not do this well. I'm just glad I didn't wait till a later date to do it.
I did go out to see Lady and Molly but poor Lady was afraid of my walker and eyed me warily. The kitties have all gotten used to it and stay out of the way. Jim has taken the shower doors off and put up a shower curtain which I prefer as do all the cats....now having access to the shower. They line up ouside while I bath yowling at me the whole time at least Tom does Shadow sits on the sink and watches from there. The others keep their distance. Tom is fascinated with the process and insists on drying my legs by rubbing himself crazy on them while I try to towel dry.
