Bonding

Sitting here in total exhaustion with frayed nerves, but also a warm feeling.  This morning I started my usual "farm chores" put the hay out and de pooped the field. The horses heard their Neighbors or Naaaaybors in the field so stopped what they were doing to go to the fence line to say good morning. I went on with my business and was watering when I saw Cody and Molly emerge from the woods alone and proceed to go to the hay. I knew this was not a usual as they go in threes now since they are bonded. I could just about make out Lady at the fence and she seemed to be just standing looking my way. Looking closely I felt utter fear as I saw the she was struggling....her leg was caught in the fence. I kept talking loudly to her as I ran ..pain and all....my "child" was in danger. I got to her and saw my worst nightmare her leg was entwined in the fence going through three of the space holes and I knew I would have to get it out of each of them.  Keep in mind though she is only 14.2 hands she has to be 1000 lbs or so. I prayed to God to give me the strength. I managed to keep my head and keep talking calmly to her as they recognize fear and do react to it. I kept kissing her neck hugging her and then managed to get her out of one hole, then two then she moved  and struggled and got caught again. Slowly I worked her out each of us resting as we went. I had her leg out of all but one and she kept bending it soI couldn't get her out.  As I leaned against her she leaned against me we rested and she nuzzled my neck and loved at me. I was at first thinking she was going to panic and bite but no she nuzzled me....she knew and trusted me so I knew tired that I was and scared I had to free her. There was no one but me anywhere around...one problem of the country. But I would have stayed with her days if I had to till someone found me. Meanwhile Cody came back with Molly and watched...Cody nuzzled my other side like Come on Ma you can do it, I had to tell him to back so I could work as together they made me a sandwich filling. It took me about 1/2 hour working and resting but I finally got her to straighten her leg and she backed out of it. With out a thank you mam off they went to the hay pile.  No limp that I could see no cuts. She let me touch and rub her leg. God I love her so gentle with me.

Afraid till Jim gets home....I have put them in the new pasture where the fence is different..the non climbing type.   Jim and I will fix it this weekend.

Thank God it didn't happen the first part of the month.

Anyway I know now that this precious horse does indeed trust me and knows I will help her when needed....I think we are bonded.

Hugs,
Doreen
