Yesterday was an interesting and very nice day. We started by taking the jeep over to Ponca City to a glass shop to have a chip in my windshield fixed. This only took about a half hour...boy the things they can do.
After Jim took me for breakfast at Perkins and I have to admit I ate like a piggy. They had something called Granny's Omelet which was filled with peppers, onions, cheese and hash browns that also came with home fries or hash browns and 3 pancakes. Yup I ordered it. And no I couldn't finish it. But oh it was sooooo good. I had a nice glass of V8 to go with it and some unbelievable good coffee. Jim (not the piggy type) ordered just pancakes. Hey, what can I tell you.
From there we went grocery shopping to pick up some things to keep us till we leave later this week for home. Then we went adventuring. We stopped in at a coffee shop I found down town Blackwell which has Espresso drinks, Thank Goodness. It's called Holy Grounds (cute) It's not as sophisticated as Brace's Books and More, but the coffee is good and people friendly and nice. This makes it great for me as I can get my "fix" of latte without waiting for Jim to take me to Ponca City. From there we took a trip South and checked out the old right of way for the Sante Fe which went to Tonkawa City. They rails are gone, the depot in ruins and they have built up on the right away. Kind of sad as there is still a grain elevator there and if the lines were able to be put back in they could have shipped by rail but not now. We then headed back North and East and traveled to Arkansas City,KS. or "Ark City" as it is known by locals. The streets there are very wide and they have redone the town and it looks like a very nice place. The weirdest thing was most of the stores were closed on a Saturday..making me wonder if it was Sat. or Sun. They have a used book store, a closed coffee ship (weird) and even a Scrapbook store which since I don't do paper I didn't even stop in. Another weird thing for me. LOL. We then headed home as it was about 3 PM by then and we took another route back which brought us over to the road we usually use to drive between Blackwell and Wellington, KS along the rail line. I believe we took 166 across and along the way we saw farms and farms of Sunflowers, so I guess that is the crop of the area.
I really enjoyed myself and I think Jim did too, it was very relaxing and gave us a look at our home away from home.
I also managed to do a couple of LO's Friday and Saturday using TerrellS kits.
This AM we were awakened by a phone message saying that one of the train signals was going off so we're off to fix it.
Later.
