At the ranch

Tracy and I have been walking through the woods between our houses checking out deer trails to see if we can't change some over to horse trails. We already have a few up at her section of the woods and have figured out some more down at our area and a path way to her house.  When Jim gets home we will go out with saw and clippers and work on some of them. With what we found we should be able to wind all around and get a good ride.

The bonding has been moving along and both Molly Mae and Lady Irish have settled in nicely. The other day I did the breath into the nostrils with Lady and she responded in turn to me. We had a bit of excitement today though......

Tracy said she would walk down and we would saddle up Lady and do some Parelli exercises with her and lead me around the yard. Well she brought all the dogs with her and they thought the horses were their  horses not realizing they weren't and bounded into the pasture. All hell broke loose as Molly he hawed and raced after them attacking and kicking Kate ( one of the dogs). Lady Irish was on a lead rope with me holding her and she remained pretty calm with all the excitement going on. Kate was a little shook up as she also got zapped by the fence. Tracy took the dogs back home and when she returned we practiced some Parelli and then we saddled her up and Took her out of the pasture while Tracy led me around the yard...she behaved great even though Molly was running madly around the pasture following us  as we paralleled the yard. Molly will be a problem for sure but thankfully Lady can do without her though Molly wants to be with Lady. I guess for me to ride I will need a pen or a barn where we can put Molly up.  Lady also learned some things very quickly.  I had to get on the picnic table to get on but dismounted without it....I have to admit I thought I would die with the pain I got trying to get my leg back over the saddle to drop to the ground I also got my foot caught in the stirrup and thankfully she is a small horse so I was able to get it out...they have kind of a padded bottom which catches the bottom of your boots. Also the saddle is very comfortable but does not fit her at all.  It tips and even with my weight it isn't right. Looks like we might have to sell it and buy something else.

Everyone is set for the night all fed and watered.  Including the kitties.

Molly Mae is on duty and I can sleep well knowing she is earning her keep protecting Lady. A donkey can be a viscous little animal when it comes to a predator.I understand now why people have them and am glad to have her...problems and all.
