Tommy was gone this AM when we got up, but returned later in the day. We left him sleeping and went to Wal-mart to buy a heat lamp to make the two foster children warm. On returning I started to bath his wound and found it swollen and full of infectious material again plus I found more wounds on the other leg. I don't know how he managed to move around. Jim called the vet and explained the whole situation to her and they had us bring him right in. I had hoped his owners would take care of him but I guess not. The vet cleaned up his wounds and gave him a massive dose of antibiotics. His wounds were real bad and she wasn't happy with the looks of them. i;ve taken him home and have shut him in the porch so I can give him antibiotics for the next few days. his temp was 104, not good for a cat but what was good is that he was eating and drinking. We have decided that we can't make him our own kitty, but we will take him back and have him altered ASAP. That will end the cat fights, at least. We'll get him inoculated for Rabies too. As for Pud Pud I doubt if we can even get her to the vet for anything as she is very skittish. Tom on the other hand is very sweet natured. We are now hoping he will pull through. he ate twice more and drank water then went to bed in the little house as Pud took over the big one to his dismay. He did sit in front of the big one staring at her for about 15 mins. before figuring she wasn't moving out. They both relished the heat lamp which is now on keeping both of them toasty for the night. I find it remarkable that he would still try to make his rounds even though in pain and remarkable still that he returned to us for care.
For now he is safe and we will see what happens when he is well and we have him altered. I don't much care at this point if he does have an owner and how they would feel about it since they obviously chose to ignore his condition. This leaves the thought that there is another Doreen and Jim out there just feeding strays and figuring they have owners somewhere else like we did.
We discussed the possibility of making him ours by going the whole route but it wouldn't be fair to Pud Pud. That and the fact that we travel and can't afford to take them on as pets means they will have to stay as strays or what we refer to as barn cats. We are hoping that the property in Crossville will sell so that we can make a barn or lean too that they can use as shelter, especially if we close in the porch leaving them no where to go.
I have to tell you that the little boy never put up a fuss through this whole thing, so you know how sick he was. He just looks at us with trusting eyes.
Well Scarlett I might make heaven yet someone who cares for poor defenseless kitties can't be all bad. LOL
Sleep tight Tommy and feel better soon. One thought Jim and I had was that after we have him altered we can just see him telling any other male stray to run before they loose their jewels.
