Leaving the ranch we set out in the buckboard (Reality-jeep) heading to the settlement in Wellington. Jim had to stop at the Train Depot (Reality-BN yard) to arrange for the transfer of train cars. It started out as a quiet trip bouncing along on the trail till I noticed smoke signals (Reality-a farmer burning his fields) we quickened the pace as who knows it could be Indians destroying the telegraph lines. (Reality- farmer burning his field). Arriving at the depot (Reality-BN yard) Jim did his reporting. We then went into the settlement (Reality
-Wellington town) and to the tradingpost (Reality Wal-Mart) for supplies. We then returned to our lines (the BNG) and did a check of the rail signal where Jim found a problem, Indian tampering. (Reality-malfunction) meaning we had to take a trip back to the ranch in Blackwell for tools, but first we had to move the Iron Horse (BNG engine) down the track to make room for the cars to come. On the trip back in the buckboard (jeep) I could see a lot of smoke off to the East..it looked like the Indians had gotten a wagon train. (Reality- more farmers burning their fields to ready them for planting) Nothing we could do so we continued to our own settelment and where we stopped to bring some vittles back to our ranch. After supper we headed back to our lines in Wellington to finish the repair of the signal box and wait for the transfer of cars. It was well after dark when this occured and I could see men on the back of the cars, probably buffalo hunters (reality- condutors). After the transfer and fixing of the signal we stopped in the settlement (town) and had some coffee and apple pie.
We then headed South for home while I snoozed dreaming of Oklahoma's past.
Hey I have to do something with my time..and I do believe in embelishments.
